Producer and brainchild of GlitterBox Jolene Mifsud, AKA InkBits (They/Them), told FUSE that when the
Queen of glitter, Jazida opened Flazeda in Belconnen Canberra, she asked them about producing a fabulous queer party here in Canberra.
Having spent their 20s in Sydney, coming out and moving out of home, Jolene found nightlife and queer parties is where they found their chosen family.
After moving to Canberra eight years ago, Jolene noticed a lack of queer parties and wanted to bring a space that was safe and inclusive for our community, and producing at Flazeda also meant they were supporting a queer POC-run place, which was essential to them.
Jolene, AKA InkBits, also wanted to give a platform to all the amazing queer, trans, BIPOC artists we have in Ngunnawal country (Canberra).
GlitterBox has been running since 2021 and GlitterBox also holds a best dressed/dance-off comp and has awarded many great prizes.
The event had a tough start, with the first party having restricted numbers due to COVID restrictions, and then two parties had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. Since those dark COVID days, GlitterBox has gone from strength to strength and has had four sold-out events since June 2022.
GlitterBox has become a popular queer event with many new faces, including a devout bunch of amazing humans who come to every party.
GlitterBox takes place at
Flazéda Hub in Belconnen by the lake hosted by InkBits.
The next GlitterBox will be happening in Spring on Satruday 9 September 2023.
