Notorious radio presenter Kyle Sandilands has once again come under fire, this time for spouting homophobic remarks about the current monkeypox outbreak. Listeners tuning into the popular ‘Kyle and Jackie-O Show’ on KIIS FM were left stunned after Sandilands ranted about “the big gay disease” and wanting to keep gays away from his newborn son.
After a queer listener called in, Sandilands questioned if the man had seen the “dirty scabs that everyone gets” before expressing his concern of catching it from promiscuous gay colleagues.
A spokesperson for the leading LGBTIQ+ health body Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations responded that:
Comments such as this are not just hurtful, they are also deeply unhelpful...
by inflaming stigma and deterring people from visiting health clinics. Sandilands has long purported to be an ally of marginalised groups, particularly the queer community, and was even on a float at Mardi Gras in 2018.
