The Simpsons boss open to queer Lisa

Al Jean, showrunner of the much beloved long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons, has stated that Lisa being queer is certainly a “possibility”. Fan speculation reached a frenzy after flash-forwards in season 23 episode ‘Holidays of Future Passed’ briefly depicted an adult Lisa holding hands with two women. Later, in season 29 episode ‘Mr Lisa’s Opus’, a future Lisa is depicted attending Harvard University and ends up holding hands with a girl that she hints may be “more than a friend”. Jean commented publicly stating, “She is open and, you know, somebody who loves everything.  Why not?”...

How gender fluidity reveals the heart of this comedy

In the mood for laughs? Then, there couldn’t be a brighter, funnier theatrical romp than Bell Shakespeare’s new production of The Comedy of Errors. By juggling gender roles, director Janine Watson infuses Shakespeare’s shortest play with a contemporary fluidity that reveals the heart and humanity of this timeless tale.

In a Heartbeat - Animated Short Gay Film

When recent college graduates Esteban Bravo and Beth David posted their senior thesis film it went viral. The short, called In a Heartbeat, is a simple yet enduring story, a heartwarming fable of young love and all the irrepressible butterflies that come with it. It also just happens to be about two boys, which despite the ascent of LGBTIQ+ characters in film and television is still rarefied in animated or children’s cinema. In a Heartbeat - Animated Short Film from Beth & Esteban on Vimeo. A closeted boy runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to...

The Coming Back Out Ball

While Canberra recently celebrated the Marriage Equality ‘Yes’ vote at YES!Fest, this Australian documentary charts the emergence of a very different new LGBTIQ ball in Melbourne. The Coming Back Out Ball is a brand new event for LGBTIQ elders who haven’t been ‘out on the scene’ for many a year and is the brainchild of Tristan Meecham and Bec Reid (aka All The Queens Men). We follow the duo in their party preparations and delve into the lives of a range of elders who are each coming to the ball from a different life circumstance, sexuality or gender identity. What all of the elders have ...

Blonde Bombshell Ready to Blow

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with Australia’s golden boy of comedy… Joel Creasey! To say I was a little nervous to interview the so-called ‘Acid Tongue Prince’ would be like saying the Titanic only sank just a bit. Alas, after overcoming my nerves, and somehow silencing the incessant voice of RuPaul inside my head bellowing ‘DON’T F**K IT UP’, I managed to have a lovely chat with the even lovelier and ever-sassy comedian.

Yasmin Element is Heidi Von Hottentot

If you've been to a FUSE event then you would’ve seen her on stage, and maybe even rubbed shoulders (or tassels) with her... Or maybe you were one of the many in the audience who can't resist but have your photo taken with her? Heidi likes old music, the kind you bop to. She may not be a great dancer, but she’s really good at bumping and grinding. Be careful though, because she will fall flat on her face if you ask her to do an arabesque. Heidi’s inspirations include Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop, Liza Minnelli, and anyone kooky and offbeat. She also loves a good chase scene from the Benn...
