Dyke Movie & Dinner Night - Tuesdays | ACT
A casual and friendly group that welcomes all like-minded women in Canberra to meet weekly for coffee, a movie and dinner.
Coffee Movie Dinner Group - Tues 11 April - A Man Called Ove
This week we are meeting in Civic, 6pm at Prosecco Bar. Prosecco is located inside the Palace Electric Cinema auditorium at New Action Nishi, 2 Phillip Law Street (end of Marcus Clarke St). Newcomers can find the movie group sitting on the left side of the bar along the long wall.
The movie starts at 6.50pm and is screening at the Palace Cinema Complex. Palace Electric Patrons receive 50% off the standard Nishi parking rates. The Prosecco Bar serves premium wine, snacks. Afterwards dinner is at the Bicicletta Restaurant, inside the Diamant Hotel, 1/15 Edinburgh Avenue, Canberra. Due to the later finish times of movies, the organiser may need to run ahead to the restaurant to ensure the kitchen will stay open.
Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman’s international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential angry old man next door. An isolated retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, who spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about, and visiting his wife’s grave, Ove has given up on life. Enter a boisterous young family next door who accidentally flattens Ove’s mailbox while moving in and earning his special brand of ire.
Yet from this inauspicious beginning an unlikely friendship forms and we come to understand Ove’s past happiness and heartbreaks. What emerges is a heartwarming tale of unreliable first impressions and the gentle reminder that life is sweeter when it’s shared.
