SpringOUT Fair Day 2016 | ACT

The AIDS Action Council of the ACT was proud to once again host Fair Day as part of the SpringOUT 2016 Pride Festival. Fair Day is one of the biggest events in the Canberra LGBTIQ calendar. It has been a part of the Canberra scene since 1999.

This year it was held at Gorman House (Ainslie + Gorman Arts Centres) Saturday 29 October 2016.

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras 2016

Last night, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade brought the city to a standstill in a glittering explosion of pride. An estimated 200,000 people looked on as the biggest and longest parade in recent years, made up of 178 floats and 12,500 participants, marched, rolled and danced through the heart of Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian district.

Born from a single night of celebration turned political protest, the true Mardi Gras spirit lives on 38 years later. The Mardi Gras theme of ‘Momentum” saw thousands of LGBTQI people and their supporters from all over the world come together to joyously celebrate how far the community has come, as well as recognise the journey ahead. Morning Tea at Parliament House

Following a morning tea reception at Parliament House on 1st June 2015, Labor leader Bill Shorten and his deputy Tanya Plibersek introduced a bill into the Australian House of Representatives to legalise same-sex marriage. Although debate on the bill was immediately adjourned due to the fact that the opposition does not have the numbers to push it further, Prime Minister Tony Abbott responded by leaving the door open for a possible free vote on the issue in the Liberal party room at some point in the future, with the proviso that it is in response to a cross-party bill.
